Published in 1993 by food writer Patricia B. Mitchell, Salad Days: Super Salads and Delicious Dressings contains 72 simple and flavorful recipes from her own repertoire, including “Mountain Macaroni Salad,” “Mrs. Gammill's Shrimp Salad,” “Tricia's Blue Cheese Dressing,” and “French Quarter Salad Dressing.”
When this book was published, Patricia Mitchell and her husband Henry had been operating their bed-and-breakfast in Virginia for eight years. Patricia had written several small cookbooks so her guests could have the recipes they had been enjoying at her breakfast and dinner table. Then she found her readers were also interested in the recipes she was preparing for her own family; Salad Days was one of several cookbooks which resulted. In the meantime, she was creating yet another category of books: recipes and narratives involving specific periods, ethnicities, and regionalities of food history, for distribution through museums (those became her widely-known Inkling Series).
Salad Days went out of print in 1999, at which time portions of the manuscript were included in Patricia's Specialties from the Southern Garden. After receiving many requests during the intervening years for copies of this and her other early recipe collections, Patricia is making them available again here in the Keeping Room Series of old favorites, for the enjoyment of her readers.
