I wish each of you individually could have been beside me at my kitchen-sink window the past few weeks. A mare in the pasture behind our house gave birth to a beautiful wheat-and-white-colored foal recently. Watching the little one develop is a joy! She is all long wobbly legs, flicking tail, and hungry mouth. How eagerly she nurses as her mother grazes in proud resignation, the foal hanging onto the nipple greedily while mom walks around.
The baby is now learning to eat grass. You know how funny they look with their legs stuck out straight at angles like a tripod, their heads down to the ground!
This is the first time in my life I've had the opportunity and privilege to observe, on a daily basis, the growth of a foal. It is one of the prettiest sights I've ever seen.
